Enochian Crescent – NEF.VI.LIM (2010) Review
YOUTUBE
Enochian Crescent is Finnish black metal. They don’t care what everyone else is doing, they don’t care what the popular sound is, they just play their own breed of black metal. It’s a bit slower and more progressive than a lot of the material out there, but it’s good to be different.
So, what sort of black metal is this? The music is mid-tempo and full of atmosphere. The songs move from one riff to another, from slower portions to short, explosive blast-beats. It makes each track feel more like a journey. It’s something to listen to when you aren’t in the mood for the insanely intense or raw black metal. They are not avantgarde black metal by any means, They are just dynamic.
As for comparrisons, Enochian Crescent reminds me a bit of the Norwegian band, Shining, though they are more consistent in their sound.
If you haven’t heard of Enochian Crescent I want to recommend their last album, Black Church. Most critics gave it a near perfect score. They did a lot of chanting and ranting and I missed that a bit on this EP. All in all this is an awesome release and I find myself wanting more. The six tracks are just over 30 minutes in length. Luckily, Black Church isn’t old yet.

I remember when I first played that over stereo mix and we were laughing at how dead the vocalist sounded.
It is great music though!
