Mistur – Attende (2009) Review
YOUTUBEWhat’s folk and black and viking all over? Damn, that was a stupid joke, but I’m not going to erase it. I’ll display my misstep for all. Anyway, that is what we have here: Over 55 minutes of viking black metal with some folk elements. I’ve been listening to this more than anything lately (yes, more than the new Keep of Kalessin album).
Mistur is a four man group from Norway. The music is very melodic and even reminds me of the mighty Windir. In fact, I started to get the feeling that I was listening to a new Windir album. I looked up the band members, and sure enough, Stian Bakketeig (from Windir) is on the guitars! How does he keep coming up with these amazing guitar lines? He is also playing guitar for Cor Scorpii and Vreid. You’d think he’d run out of riffs, but that is not the case. Everything sounds origonal, inspired, and as sweeping as anything else he has even worked on.
The production quality is up to the modern standards as well. It’s not as thick and clean as some of the death metal coming out, but it’s not supposed to be. Each note is clear. The keyboards are omnipresent. They provide the backdrop for most of the album and they do not get in the way or overpower the guitars. The guitars really carry the music.
Mistur also uses a bit of piano (or a piano sound on the keyboard). I really enjoy the piano on “Armod”. It’s almost a black metal minuette.
All in all, this seems to be the most true follow up albums to the legacy of Windir. It might be as good as Cor Scorpii’s Monument album, but it is closer to the sound of Windir than anything else the Windir members have created.
This is highly recommended for fans of Vreid, Cor Scorpii, Windir, and even Galar.

I've liked Mistur for a while now, not as much as Windir though. Hahahahahahahhaha
Anyway, great review.
I love Cor Scorpii, and Vreid. Bakketeig is an amazing guitarist, among the best around. I frigging love this.

I wish I had all these dollars to buy music! In my case, Communion comes first, then maybe this.
