8.9/10
Ensiferum plays epic viking metal with folk elements. I really like the dynamics these guys put into their music. One minute the guitars are soaring and the vocals are in full assault, the next we are treated to an acoustic assortment filled with mandolins, guitars, and even a piano. There are both harsh and clean vocals on this (and the other) album. The harsh vocals are now performed by Norther front-man, Petri Lindroos. I always preferred Jari Mäenpää. He who did the on the first two albums before moving to his new project, Wintersun. He sounds more like a viking to me. Lindroos has an amazing scream. It’s clean and full, just not as savage as Mäenpää. I highly recommend this for any fans of epic metal, viking metel, and folk metal. It also works for fans of Wintersun, Norther, and Turisas. Check out the audio review for a little more info and some music samples. [podcast]http://keepitmetal.com/audio/0001_ensiferum-from afar-KeepItMetalRevlew.mp3[/podcast] LoganQuote

Hey man, where'd you get that podcast player? Was looking for one yesterday in preparation for some reviews and couldn't find one that looked simple and straightforward like that. As for the review itself, I like it. To the point, knowledgeable, well done. Makes me consider the album even though I'm not big on epic metal. That spaghetti western thing sounds awesome. Great album! Ensiferum never fails me that's for sure. This album is quite more….melodic than the others. The keyboards are not as important in this album as they used to be either, but the guitars makes up for it. Really great. |

I added it to the wordpress part of the site… when you are going to add a blog scroll down to the bottom and you will see a pod casting function… you have to upload your mp3 to some location… then you can just drop the URL into the podcasting thing and click "add to post"… I think that's how it works! lol. adminQuote

cool review, i think this was one of the years best albums too. BTW what did you use to record your audio review? was there any special program you had to use to splice in the music behind your speech? |

You can record your voice and throw it in sony vegas with the music behind it and render to an MP3. Dr.DickDelawareQuote

If you haven’t heard Ensiferum you have probably been listening to too much American radio metal. These guys are the real deal from Finland. Their forth and latest studio album, From Afar, is one hell of a piece of music.
