Animals as Leaders – Animals as Leaders (2009) Review
Animals as Leaders is an instrumental, one man, metal band from Seattle, Washington. Well, it’s not really a one man deal. Tosin Abasi does all the guitar and bass guitar work while Misha Mansoor programmed all the other synthesized sounds and drums.
Tosin Abasi plays an insane eight string guitar and he is all over it. The music is melodic, sweeping, dynamic, and intricate. Each track seems to be a journey.
I am not really going to try to over-describe this. Just listen to it:

one of the best instrumental albums I've ever heard. it was absolutely worth the purchase for me. Songs change from brutal low tuned guitar riffing, to melodic and incredibly faced paced 2 handed tapping/sweep picking, to acoustic sections seemlessly. This guitarist is seriously one of the best I've ever heard. It's rare for me to find a song i simply cant play on my guitar, but animals as leaders is INCREDIBLE with their guitar work, I can hardly even play their rhythm guitar stuff. Tobin Abasi is a guitar god.

Insane album indeed. I love the kind of spacey, hypnotic feel it has…I just zone out when I listen to this album (and Chimp Spanner too, his tapping technique is really incredible IMO). There are not many instrumental albums that I can listen to without being like "fucking wanker" (aside from Post-rock and such)…most of them have no depth at all and just consists on being a show off, while the music on this is just so original and refreshing. Very solid album….out of this world musicianship from Tobin.
One of 2009's best album.

Been listing to this for about 2 weeks now.
Damn good guitar work. The transitions between fast heavy, melodic, acoustic is seamless
The songs are very atmospheric and have great depth to them.
The 9.5/10 is also really good sure the guitar work alone is a 10/10 but I felt the drumming could have been more complex
