Kromlek – Finis Terræ (2011) Review

I’ve just finished listening Finis Terræ by Kromlek and my head hurts from the epicness! I only have time for a quick review but that should be enough time to recommend some German metal.

Kromlek plays blackened epic folk metal. The music is driving, melodic, and a lot of fun to listen to. The keyboards add to most of the songs but here and there they tend to be a bit much (especially when they sound like a trance music beat). Beneath the keyboards we have some amazing melodies, sweeping guitar lines, and crisp black metal vocals. I should note that the keyboards are not more ridiculous than, say, a Finntroll album but they do sound a lot happier. Yes, these keyboards are extremely happy to rock your face off.

If you are a fan of Suidarka, Eisregen, Stormlord, Irrbloss, Mistur, and similar bands then you should out Kromlek. I had a ton of fun with Finis Terræ. It’s not quite as fun as Kveldridhur (their first and my favorite of their albums) but the production quality is higher. If I could change one thing it would be the keyboards. Why do they have to be so damn happy? I guess I’ll just have to suffer through this good mood!
